SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Mrs. Sylvester entertained a number of friends in the private room of George Court and Sons' tearooms, the occasion being a farewell prior to her leaving for Christchurch. The room was bright with autumn flowers and red foliage. Among the guests were: —Mesdames T. V. J. Riley, C. Sellars, D. Scott, L. Titlieridge, A. Bridgcford, E. Calvert, S. K. Beamish, A. Baldwin and Miss B. Barnes. # • • • An enjoyable bridge afternoon was given at George Court and Sons' tearooms, the girrat of honour being Mrs. W. J. Court, who leaves this month for England and the Continent. Among those playing were:—Mesdames J. W. Court, J. Kirkwood, Poole, J. T. Gill, T. B. Crawford, IT. Craig, J. E. Cowe'.l, J. Parr, G. Patterson, L. May, W. Wallace, and Miss G. Hills. • • • • A kitchen evening given by Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Kirk-Burnnand in honour of Miss Isla Kirk-Burnnand and Mr. Alan Iv. Godfrey, was held in the- Masonic Hall, Ellerslie, on Saturday evening. An enjoyable time was spent in dancing, interspersed with games and competitions. The hostess received the guests in a frock of green floral georgette and the guest of honour wore black elephant crepe. 1•• • • The members of tlie Taliaroto Park Tennis Club surprised Mr. and Mrs. E. Boyd, of 5, Napier Avenue,' Takapuna, on Saturday night by arriving in full force to farewell tliem before their departure to take up residence in Sydney. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing and a presentation was made by the secretary on behalf of the members. Among those present were: Mesdames W. Arrnitage, W. Wazencraft, Veitch, Maddren, W. G.' Taylor. H. Arrnitage. Misses I. Ash win, M. Blateli, M. Boyd, A. Lynch, M. Edgar, C. Grant, M. Grant, G. tucker.
