THE WIND AND THE TREES.
Apropos H. M. Vinvent's note on "'scorching of foliage. I could not help being struck by the fact that of two nectarine trees I have, the one sheltered from the west wind, but not the north, was not burned at all, being quite green after the storm. On the other hand, the tree exposed to both the north and west winds was badly scorched on the west side and not at all on" the north. This is because I must be miles nearer the sea on the north side. t made me wonder whether the wind caused, the scorch entirely; it was so noticeable. NECTARINE.
