OBITUARY.

MRS. H. D. COOPER,

The death occurred at Te Kuiti of Mrs. li. D. Cooper, who was before her marriage Miss Stella Wliitmore Fetch. Mrs. Cooper was a prominent member of the Anglican Church, the Plunket Society, the Civic League, and the Women's Division of the Farmers Union. At the time of her death she was president of the Te Kuiti Ladies Golf Club. Mr. Cooper is the Te Kuiti manager of Dalgety and Co., Ltd.

MRS. MARION BARTON.

At the age of S3 Mrs. Marion Barton, one of Hamilton's best-known citizens, and wife of the late Mr. C. J. W. Barton, has died. Mrs. Barton was the daughter of the late Mr Henry Edgecombe, another well-known Waikato identity. She was born in Chittenliam, Wiltshire, England, and came to New Zealand at the age of 12. Mr. Barton and she were married at Ngaruawahia in 1579 bv the late Archdeacon Calder. Mrs. Barton had lived all her married .life in Hamilton and was a capable associate of her husband when he was Mayor of the town. She is survived by three sons ar.d four daughters. There arc 13 grandchildren.

MR. G. F. LINNELL.

The death has occurred at "Waihakari," Kaiwaka, of Mr. George Forrester. Liimell, the oldest resident in the Kai-! waka district. Mr. Linnell, who was born in Cheshire, England, nearly 93 vears ago, came to New Zealand as a. ( young man. He was interested in J riding in the Old Country, and had the experience of mounts at Ascot. In New Zealand he became a sheep farmer. He was councillor for the Kaiwaka Riding over a long period of years, and was gazetted a J.P. at a very early age. Mr. Linnell was also a very prominent church worker, and was a lay preacher in the Anglican Church until recent vears. He married Miss Mary Hull, daughter of the late Mr. Francis Hull, lato° of Fairburn, who died many years ago. He is survived by three sons ar.d three daughters. There are 16 grandchildren.

MR. F. SYMES,

The death has occurred of Mr. Fred Svmcs, one of Wanganui's most prominent citizens. He was deputy-Mayor for a period, represented the city on the Wanganui Harbour Board, worked zealously for the St. John Ambulance, was a director of Rotary, rendered long and most useful service for the city bands, and accomplished ii great deal as a member of lodge Moutoa, of Freemasons. He was entrusted with the chairmanship of the Wanganui Earthquake Relief Committee at the time of the Napier earthquake. He also served the city as a member of the Wanganui Fire Board, and was a foundation member of the Gonville Bowling Club.

A message from Rarotonga announces the death, after a short illness, of Captain J. McCullough, resident agent at Maniliiki and Rakalmga.
