ROYAL CLUB'S REGATTA.
RACES AT KAWAU.
The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron's annual night race to Kawau, as the preliminary of the club's regatta, started at 7 p.m. on Friday off the King's wharf in a very light breeze from the north-west, varying to north at times. Messrs. Winstone's Nga Toa won. with Mr. W. Alilers' Waiono second and Messrs. Tattersfield and Mills' Altair third.
The race on Saturday morning with lady skippers resulted in a win lor I'eri. sailed by Miss Jane Head, with Tawera second, sailed by Mrs. Scott Wilson, wife of the owner, and Altair, with Miss Janet \\ allaco at the tiller, was third on corrected times.
Two races were sailed on Saturday afternoon, the winner in the first division being Moana, with Tawera second and lorangi third. In the second division the placed boats were : Ludye Wilnut 1, Altair 2, Peri 3.
Mr. Ernest Davis placed his schooner vac-lit Morewa at the disposal of the Squadron. and she was fiagsliip, being moored in the centre of Bon Accord Harbour, opposite Mansion House Bay. The prize for the night race was a tropliv presented by Admiral Blake, who was present at the club's first regatta at Kawau a few years ago, and to mark Ins appreciation lio donated a handsome tropliv and miniature, both of which are much prized. The ladies competed lor a tropliv presented annually by Mr. Ernest Davis*. The first division in the 'aftetnooii race competed for Commodore A. K. Clifford's prize, and the second division for the Bertlion Barrel, another Naval trophy.
A dance was held at the Mansion House on Saturday, when the prizes in the ladies race were presented by Mr. Davis.
All had a fine run home yesterday afternoon, carrying spinnakers from Kawau to North Head. The outing was one of the best this club has held. General Handicap Events. Two races were sailed on Saturday afternoon under the Squadron's new classification. The first division started at J.rfO pm., lorangi, Victory, Nga Toa and Waitangi getting the best of the start. On the second round Moana and Tawera did the best and tlie finish was: Moana (8m), 3h 4"m los. 1; Tawera (scr), 3h 45m 2Ss, 2: lorangi (scr), .'ill 47m 335, 3; Nga Toa (lm) and Victory (Cm 30s), 31i uOm 7s, dead-heat, 4.
The second division started at 2.45 p.m., Waione getting away first, followed by Altair, Mahakl and Ladye Wilina, which sailed well and finished first. The times were: Ladve Wilma (lm 30s), 41i lm Kis, 1- Altair (4m), 4h Sm 555, 2; Peri (10m), 4h 15m 10s, 3; Maliaki (7in), 41i 25m 525, 4.
