A SPLENDID WORK.

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY ACTIVITIES,

The unselfish and unceasing work being done by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary is shown in the report presented at the first council meeting of the year, held at the Nurses' Home, I Park Road, on Wednesday. The president, Mrs. Alfred Ividd, presided, and representatives were present from the Onehunga, Mount Eden, Junior Girls, Women's Institutes and the Central brandies. Members are showing great enthusiasm in connection with the fete which is to be held in Mrs. Ividd s gai - den on April 18.

Tlie secretary's report for the months of December and January stated that the annual treat of strawberries and cream was given on December 9 to all patients in hospital that were able to partake, G92 patients participating. The demand for men's clothing had been veiy heavy during the year and it was found necessary to purchase a complete stock of men's wear. Two special bandages were purchased for two patients for their legs. Toys to the number of 150 were bought and distributed among the children whose parents receive help from the depot, and 10 orders for milk, eggs and butter for one month. Orders for 10/ were given to 22 families to help with their Christmas cheer, and 805 garments had been given to patients both in and out of hospital. lhree oiders -were given for shoes for patients lea\ing hospital and three for patients attending hospital daily. Sixteen patients were assisted with tram fares to and from hospital. Patent foods were still being supplied to the hospital district nurses for their patients who needed extra nourishment and various patients had been given outfits of wainx clothing to go to the sanatoria. Wards were being supplied with dressing gowns, slippers and pyjamas when necessary. Many tuberculosis patients were being given extra nourishment by the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary. The investigating committee, it. was reported, was still giving invaluable assistance. The extension of the work to the Mental Hospital had been more than justified and it was passed that a grant of £50 be made to this branch. Compared with the figures of the two previous months the demand for assistance, the report continued, was greater now, especially in such cases where members of a family were in hospital and the husband was on sustenance or on relief work. Books were still being received from the Victoria League, Women's Institutes, Ellerslie Presbyterian Church Guild and many other anonymous donors.
