N.Z. 'VARSITY TEAM. First Game on SundayPlayers Warmly Welcomed. OSAKA, January 24. The New Zealand University Rugbv team arrived fit and well, and had an enthusiastic reception from the Japanese people. The team is staying at the beautiful Koshien Hotel, between Osaka and Kobe, and will move to Tokyo on Monday.' The team is delighted with the programme drawn up. The first game will be played on Sunday. llie time is being spent in training and sightseeing in Kobe and Osaka. The team which sailed from Auckland on December 24 comprises:— Backs.—McAuliffe (Canterbury), Rae (Victoria); Gillies (Otago), captain (Canterbury), H. P. Fookca (Otago), Wild (Victoria), Lewis (Auckland), Grant (Auckland), Watt (Otago), Jones (Otago), Bush (Auckland), Tricklebank JfVictoria)l ' Forwards. — (Canterbury), Thomas (Auckland), Stace (Canterbury), Chapman (Otago), Eade (Victoria), Simmes (Otago), Drake (Auckland), McVeagh (Auckland), F. J. Wilson (Canterbury), Hudson (Canterbury), Chesterman (Victoria), Laney (Otago). Green, of Otago. was in the original selection made by Mr. P. Martin-Smith (Wellington), but as he could not make the trip Chesterman was chosen to fill the vacancy. A game was played against Hongkong on January 16, the New Zealanders .winning 29-8. All West Japan Universities, at Hanazono (Osaka). February 13 —v. All-Japan Universities, at Hanazono. February 17—Depart from Kobe by Kitano Maru.
