PRACTICAL JOKE.

MASPORT CUP RACE. WHY BABY TAUBMAN FAILED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. "Investigations into the cause of the failure of Baby Taubman to start in the Masport Cup at Picton reveals that the boat and owners were subject to an ill-timed practical joke," said one of the owners to the "Evening Poet" to-day. "A metal screw was found so placed in the petrol line that the flow of fuel was practically nil," said the owner. "Unfortunately, rainy conditions in the morning made it imperative that the boat should remain well covered until immediately jefore the race, and the trouble was not located in time to start. Officials showed every courtesy, but adjustments under the wet conditions were impossible."
