FREAK ELECTION WAGERS.
Thousands of dollars changed hands with the Liberal landslide in the Canadian general election. Some of the wagers were of a very bizarre character. The strangest brought chagrin to an elderly gentleman in Toronto who had to push a solitary peanut down a city street. "I bet on the Conservatives," was his surly reply when a reporter asked him what he was doing it for. Two other Toronto merchants had to climb t,he tower of the City Hall in their pyjamas. Ottawa witnessed the spectacle of several liasty betters pushing the winners down the streets of the capital in wheelbarrows, followed by a retinue of cheering urchins.
