HITLER AT HOME.

A COUNTRY GENTLEMAN. | j HIS MOUNTAIN RETREAT. BERLIN, December 20. Good Nazis are being urged to buy a book just published, "Hitler in liis Mountains." . ~ The book, which contains eighty-six photographs of Chancellor Hitler in semi-private life at his Bavarian retreat, gives a picture of the Nazi leader as a simple country gentleman wearing civilian clothes. Haus Waclienfeld, at Obersalzberg Berchtesgaden, near the Austrian frontier, is a typical wooden Bavarian chalet, furnished in simple comfortable taste. It is surrounded by barbed wire, and the gate has a notice 011 it stating "Entrance Forbidden. Fierce Dog." In a lyrical foreword to the book Herr von Schira-ch writes: "At night myriads of stars look down on the mountain house and the Leader stands lost in the view before him of the moonlit landswipe, the details of which have been familiar to him for decades." Several pictures show Herr Hitler alone, contemplating the majestic mountains and solitary lakes, while others reveal him gazing-with brooding eyes on not-far-away Austria. Many pictures show Herr Hitler surrounde'd by laughing cheering youth, _ signing autographs, shaking eager hands. Crowds, mostly women, pay a pilgrimage to Haus "VVachenfeld, and wait until the Leader takes his afternoon walk. • Herr Hitler is also revealed as a dog lover, with his Alsatian, "Blonda." He takes meals with simple local . people, and visits his neighbour, General Goering, whose Bavarian estate is almost next door. Distinguished guests, such as Dr. Schact, Dr. Goebbels, and General von Blomberg, are seen at Haus Wa/?henfeld. Chancellor Hitler is shown at work signing documents, reading the local newspaper, "Berchtesgadener Anzeiger,"! and striding in plus fours through the winter enow. ' L
