NOW BOOMING.
U.S.A. MOTOR INDUSTRY. NEW PEAK FOR 1930. 3 The motor industry in the United ■States has recovered its peak production of 192<J and promises to establish new I J record figures this year, said Mr. Elijah I ' (t. Poxton, president of the Reo Sales Corporation, who arrived in Auckland | by the Monterey this morning. Mr. Poxton is making a world trip visiting the company's branches overseas and will be in the Dominion for about a month | before proceeding to Australia. In the peak year of 1929 the value [ of the motor production in the United States was 3J billion dollars, said Mr. , Poxton, but in the general depression of 1932 it had shrunk to less than a billion. There was a steadv recovery ' afterwards to three billions * last year, and all, the indications were that" the four-billion mark would be reached in 1930. This, in itself, spoke for the ; importance of the industry. The export business of his company was a very important feature, added Mr. Poxton, and the tendency was to develop it. Manufacturers realised the necessity of meeting the special conditions of its oversea purchasers, and that was why he was making his first visit to these shores.
