AUCKLAND CENTRE. J. REMITS FOR N.Z. CONFERENCE. TEAM FOR DUNEDIN, FEBRUARY 11. Mr. T. C. Ilobbes-Jones presided at J last night's meeting ot delegates to the _ Auckland centre of tlie Now Zealand Amateur Swimming Association when several remits were approved for submist sion to the conference of delegates at ; Dunedin during the national senior clianir pionship meeting next month. , Remits from the Eastern Suburbs Clud passed:—That, in conformity with the ; practice being introduced at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Berlin at the Japanese Association's request, all centres conducting New Zealand championships should undertake to heat the water jn baths to a temperature of at least G1 degrees; that the granting of New Zealand ' senior championships be limited to the I ! Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Well- | ington, Canterbury, South Canterbury, Otago and Southland centres, and that . the New Zealand intermediate and junior championships be allocated to the South Auckland, Taranaki, Manawatu, Nelson, West Coast and Ashburton centres; that the distance for the men's backstroke championship of New Zealand be changed from 150 yards to 100 yards, in order to bring the event more in line with the Olympic distance, 100 metres. Remits from the Waitemata Club approved:—That the New Zealand Council should set aside a portion of the overseas representation fund to have New Zealand properly represented in water polo contests, if these are held at the British Empire Games in Sydney in 1938; that the New Zealand Council be asked to instruct ita delegate to the British Empire Games Association in London to support Australia's application to have water poio included in the British Empire Games- Jo be held in Sydney; that, in future, centres applying for the New Zealand intermediate and junior championships should give an assurance that billeting would be provided. The Waitemata Club was granted permission to control the 220 yds ladies' championship of Auckland at its carnival oo February 10. It was decided that the team representing Auckland at the New Zealand senior championship meeting in Dunedin should leave Auckland on February 11, and that it should leave Dunedin for the return journey on February 20. The .Management committee, comprising Messrs. T. C. Hobbes-Jones, Rex Moore, H. D. Milnes, F. W. Grey an.,7 J. R. Miller, was appointed to select the team. , Educational Efforts. Approval was also given .to a further suggestion brought forward by the educa- , tional officer, Mr. D. Saunders, that, in view of swimming and life-saving being ( subjects in the primary schools' curriculum, the Education Department be re- 1 quested to make provision on the schools' progress cards for the recording of the pupils' progress in these subjects before their passing out of primary schools. The meeting rejected a fourth Eastern Suburbs remit, that in view of the unrestricted encouragement given to juveniles in other countries to win national and | international championships, and their success against old swimmers, intermediates 1 and juniors should be permitted to coin- j pete in the New Zealand senior championships without sacrificing their classi- £ fication. t As the result of the report by the local t officer, Mr. D. Buchanan (Waitemata) easily won the 1 half-mile swimming championship of Auckland in 11.38 3-5. His opponents were, two Mount Eden swimmers, Walden Johnson (who distinguished himself in distance events at the national carnival here last February), and Peter Hanan, the new furlong champion of the province. For the first 300 yds Johnson led I Buchanan' by a yard, Hanan following at ii similar distance. The leader's time for

Owing to King George's funeral being held next Tuesday, the South Auckland Swimming Centre has secured permission to make an alteration in the date of the final day of the national junior and intermediate swimming championships, which will lie commenced at Hamilton on Saturday. i Originally the dates were fixed for next Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, but the final day of the carnival will now be post-poned-until Wednesday, Anniversary-Day.. . On all three dates heats will_ be raced in • the morning and finals at night.
