MARK FOY CUP.
New 250-Guinea Trophy for Small Yachts. With the object of producing a sailing craft between 18 feet and 24 feet overall, capable of representing Australia in a race for world championship, a new Mark Foy. Cup competition is being organised under sailing regulations of the Sydney flying squadron.
Sailing men throughout Australia are keenly interested in the. projected world sailing championship sponsored by Mark Foy, who founded the Sydney flying squadron 44 years ago. The new cup presented by Mr. Foy replaces the 200 guinea Mark Foy Challenge Cup which passed to the ownership of Mr. George Press, owner of the 18footer H. C. Press 2.
In addition to giving the new 250 guinea cup, Mr. Foy will provide a first prize of £100 for each race for a trophy to be sailed every two years. The district which the holder of the cup represents will suply the prize money for the second and third prizes. . The competition is open to Australian boats of from ISft. to 24ft. in length. There are no restrictions in regard to beam, depth, sails or crew. Half-decked boats are eligible. In order to compensate for the difference in the overall measurements of competing boats, an allowance of ljmin. per foot will be made.
The race will be sailed over a 12-mile triangular course. The first race will be sailed on Sydney Harbour,- and subsequent races will be conducted on the waters adjacent to the capital city of the State in which the holder resides'.
The Cup passes out of perpetuity when Avon by the same owner three times. Expectations are that the first race will be sailed in 1930-7 season between representatives from New South Wales, Queensland, West Australia, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
