STUMPED—WITHOUT STUMPS.
The New South Wales Women's Cricket Association have a problem to decide concerning the Cheerio versus Olddelds match played at Randwick Racecourse. It is the custom of tho Cheerio Club, whose home ground the racecourse is, to leave their stumps and bails in the care of the groundsman. On December 14, the second day of play in the Cheerio-Oldfields match, tho groundsman, according' to a statement by Miss Doreen Blake, captain'of the Cheerio Club, did not erect the stumps, as was his practice. Both teams arrived on time (2.15 p.m.), and the Cheerio girls set out to look for the groundsman and gain possession of their equipment. At 2.22 p.m. the umpires left the ground and declared the game "no match." By this time Oklfields had loaned a set of stumps, hut unfortunately they had no bails with them. The Cherrios' team had found the groundsman and procured bails, and the two captains decided to continue the match. The services of two onlookers* were enlisted as umpires. The result of the match, an outright win for Cheerios, will he sent to the N.S.W.W.C.A. for consideration.
