COLOURED BOXERS.
Louis-Gains to Meet in Championship Bout.
Larry Gains., tlic coloured Canadian heavy-weight, has accepted terms to fight the winner of the Joe Louis-Max Baer contest in America (states the London "Sporting Life").
A purse and a promoter are all that is necessary to complete the deal, and this question will be settled immediately iif Louis wins.
Jimmy Johnston is prepared to sta<»e a Louis-Gains match as a world coloured heavy-weight championship at Madison Square Garden, New York. Johnston declares the "gate" would be near the 200,000 dollars mark.
Meanwhile, Gains has commenced light training at Leicester in the hope that someone will accept his £500 challenge to all heavy-weights. There would be no point in the veteran Australian Gejirge Cook meeting Gains in other than a title match, for both are under the same management, so Cook has announced a desire to fight the winner of the Len HarveyEddie Phillips contest for £200 a side". Cook has not overlooked the fact that the bout is an eliminator for the British heavy-weight title held by Jack Peterson. He suggests that the winner may have to wait several months before Peterson is fit to return to tho rin», and would lie glad of a fight. Peterson is to take a six months' holiday, probably a cruise, following his wedding early in October;
[Louis beat Baer on September 24, knocking out the former champion in the fourth round.|
