The Opening Event.

Slow Class Trotters.

All went to tlio post for the Oak Handicap, a race for trotting horses only. Polly Pan, Corona Bell and Elissa commanded most attention, but Polly Pan and Elissa both tangled at the start, Great Sonoma leading out from Corona Bell, Blngen Sun, Worthy Nor and Polly Pan. Passing the stands on completion of a round Corona Bell was in charge from Creat Sonoma, Worthy Nor, Bingen Sun and Polly Pan. Along the back there was little alteration, except that Worthy Nor Was almost on terms with Corona Bell. Corona Bell was first round the -home turn, attended by Worthy Nor, there not being much betweeil the pair, while Polly Pan, Dilfashion and Bingen Sun were next."Halfway down the straight Polly Pan endeavoured to get through, on the rails, but' was disappointed and went to a break, Corona Bell winning by a length and a half from Worthy Nor, who beat Polly Pan by two lengths. Then came Dilfashion and Bingen Sun, with Great Sonoma a godd way back. The Classic Event. The four remaining in the Great Northern Derby went to the post, and Valdor was the prime fancy, while Great Jewel was next favoured. The latter, however, reared up at the start, swung round and lost a good deal of ground. Kenworthy quickly took charge from and Baron Grand, and going' l>ast the stands after completing a round was six lengths ahead of Valdor, who was followed by Baron Grand, with Great Jewel making up ground. Valddr had reduced the gap considerably as they raced along the back and was almost up with Kenworthy at the home turn. Halfway down he drew to the front and went on to beat Kenworthy by three lengths and a half. Great Jewel finished on well to beat Grand for third place by three-lengths, and would have been much nearer only for his erratic, behaviour at the start. Big Dividends. 'Activity was the only withdrawal from the Train way Handicap, leaving 11 to go to the post. Hot Point was installed favourite, while Tollgate and Ranfuriy Lass- were next in request. However, a surprise was in store for Proletarian led all the Way, makin* an exhibition, of the field, to return 'over a quarter of a century, while Wee risHj who was third, paid good double figures for a place. Tollgate broke at the start, and Proletarian led out from Wee Pai'rish, Lux Lunae, Home Brew and Parochial. . Along the back Meadow King fell and Home Brew collided with liim, causing her to lose her driver. Proletarian was still in front passing the stands again, being four lengths clear of *Wee Parrish, with Parochial, Tollgate and Lux Lunae next, Ranfuriy Lass heading the others. There Was no change along the back and Proletarian entered the straight six length" clear of Wee Parrish, Lux Lunae, Toll gate and Parochial. Proletarian went on to win by ten lengths from Liix Lunae, who. beat Wee Parrish by four lengths. Tollgate was eight lengths further back, with Bismuth, Hot Point, Kewpic's Crest and Ranfuriy Lass next. A Close Finish. All the acceptors went to the post for the Bledisloe Handicap. Glace McElwyn being favourite, while there was also money for Smooger and Travis, and the public Were not very far* Out in their selections, for Siriooger nai 4 * rowly beat the favourite, while Travis was the nearest to them at the finish. Travis, Glandore, Wee Machine and Grace McElwyn were prominent early, and this quartet were followed past the stands the first time by Waress, Homeward, Erancis Lincoln and Smooger. The order was the same when they came round again, and along the back Grace McElwyn and Smoogei' moved up fast. Grace McElwyn was first into the straight from Homeward, Smooger, Travis, Glandore, Francis Lincoln and Wee Machine,' but in the run home .Grace McElwyn tangied near the post and Smooger beat her by a head. Travis was three lengths anil a half ftway, with Erancis Lincoln, Homeward, Waress and Wee Machine ttext. Another Good Return. In the Champion Handicap, for which all started, the bracket, Pegaway and Worthy Light, were most fancied, While Tempest and Graham Direct also had support. Great Parrish galloped at the start and lost ground, and Pegaway showed Out from Prince Pedro, Bingen Palm and Sure. Pegaway was followed past the' stands by Prince Pedro, Rey Spec, Sure, Bingen Palm, Graham Direct, Willie Derby, Tempest, Worthy Light and Great Parrish. Pegnway was still in charge along the back from Prince Pedro. Key Spec, Bingen Palm. Sure. Tempest. Graham Direct and Worthy Light. Pegaway was first round the home turn, attended by Rey Spec, Sure Bingen Palm, Graham Direct . and Worthy Light, and in a good finish Key Spec headed him to Win by a neck. Sltfe was two lengths away third, with Tempest, Graham Direct, Kewpic's Triumph, Willie Derby, B'mgen Palm and Worthy Light following. The winner was at double figures.

tfuini Wins Nicely. Parrish Bell was the only defection from the Epsom Handicap, and the best backed wero To Kahu, Audo Patch and Kuini. Audo Patch skipped a bit at the start, and Worthy Nor was eooh in front from Dilfashion, Autumn Lu, Kuini and To Kahu, Mountain Sun breaking as the field turned out of the straight. Passing, the stands at tho p end of a circuit, Worthy Nor was attended by Dilfashion, Te Kahu, Kuini, Autumn Lu, Gila Day nnd Audo Patch. Along the back the order was much the same except that Te Kahu was breaking. Worthy Nor was first tostraighten up for the run to the judge from Kuini, Audo Patch and Dilfashion. Bracket in Minor Places. King's Guide, Ironside and the Nelson Luvan-Rayon d'Or bracket wel'o in most demand for the Dominion Handicap, for which all started. Nelson LuVatl was soon in front from Lucky Love, Aerial Boy, Worthy Chief and Ironside, 1 but just as they reached the back stretch Aerial Boy broke and interfered with Rayon d'Or. Passing the stands Red Frontier was in charge from Nelson Luvnn, Ironside, Lucky Love, King's Guide, Worthy Chief and Rayon d'Or.
