So tired the little drooping poppy heads, So plaintively the robin's mate is calling:, So sweet the perfume which the lilac sheds. Blue pansies lift their little smiling faces, The hollyhocks bow stiffly in the ■ breeze, A thistledown fleet bound for distant places Spreads silver sails upon the airy seas. In golden patches marigolds are blooming, And bluebells wait till elfin fingers ring, The breath of flowers the whole world is perfuming And summer's spell is over everything.
