NOTES IN PASSING.

The centenary of the formation of the Presbyterian Church in England is to be celebrated in Manchester next May.

The Women's Missionary Union of the New Zealand Methodist Church has, since its formation 21 years ago, raised £34,000 for mission purposes.

The "Daily Sketch" (London) is investigating the claims of spiritualism, assisted, it is said, by the "Sunday Times," by a committee of distinguished men and women.

Over 100 men meet in the Methodist Mission parlour in Dunedin every Thursday night to exchange views and quest for truth and brotherhood. They include atheists and Communists.

The centenary of the building of the Anglican Church in Russell will take place early in the coming year. It is said to be the oldest church in the Dominion. A movement is afoot to replace it with a building in permanent material.

General Goering, the Nazi leader, speaking in Berlin a short time ago, attacked the new paganism in Germany. "How," he asked, "is it possible to free Germany and bring about a regeneration without a deep belief in Almighty God that He can bless this gigantic work?"

"We understand quite well that to forgive is a most Christian thing. It is the truth. It is what we ought to do. But when we try to practise forgiveness we do not succeed. We forgive a little, but each of us drags along in our life a whole burden of things we have not forgiven. And we see that everybody else does the same. So we say that to forgive is an ideal which is not realised. And so we prevent each other from becoming Christians, because we are not Christians in this matter of forgiveness."—Albert Echweitzer.
