MULCHING CROPS.

It is a great advantage to mulch crops during hot, dry weather, as it helps to retain the moisture in the soil and much better results are obtained. Peas, especially derive benefit from the treatment, as do also runner beans and cauliflowers. For this purpose long stable litter is useful and may be used with advantage. Even carrots derive benefit from mulching and applications of hor6e droppings. Other short material can also be used. When this can be done it is not necessary to water the crops so frequently, as the moisture is retained in the eoil for a longer period. '
