MINING NEWS.

MARTHA GOLD MINING,

The principal work carried out underground by the Martha Gold Mining Company (YY'aihi), Limited, during the fonrweeklv period ended October 20, 1935, is given herewith. The working time was curtailed from 22 days to 14J days, owing to a strike of the four Labour unions. An agreement was. effected and work was resumed on October 17. MARTHA COMPANY'S AREA. No. 14 Level.—Edward Lode, Trout Block : The excess ore drawn from this block during the period averaged 21/1 per ton. Martha Lode, Gin Block: Ore breaking has been carried to 92 feel above the level. Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn nveraged 10/10 per ton. No. 13 Level.—Martha Lode. Cow Block : Ore breaking is now at 70 feet above the level, truck sampling of the broken ore drawn averaging 25/ per ton. No. 12 Bevel.—Royal Lode, Reptile Block: Ore breaking in this block Is at 68 feet up. Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn nveraged 17/10 per ton. Edward Lode, south of Eel Crosscut: The average assay value from 525 to 530 feet is 20/3 per ton, and from 530 to 501 feet 5/ per ton.

Harvey Block : Truck sampling of the ore drawn from Harvey Block during the period averaged 11/1 per ton. Dreadnought Lode, south branch : Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn averaged 32/1 per ton. No. 10 Level—Martha Bode, sub-level at 07 feet up Hull's Itise: Truck sampling of this work averaged 18/7 per ton.

At 00 feet south, a crosscut was driven east 0 feet, cutting the main section of lode, width 5 feet and assay value 31/7 per ton. JUNCTION COMPANY'S AREA. Junction No. 9 Level.—lntermediate level at 84 feet up, Empire Lode: Truck sampling of the ore drawn from No. 10 Pass Block averaged 15/9 per ton. Junction No. S Level. —Royal Bode : Orebreaking in Bnuroe Block has been carried to 103 feet above the level. Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn averaged 21/5 per ton. Empire Lode, South Crosscut: Truck sampling of this work averaged 21/11 per ton. No. 11 Pass Block: Ore breaking is in progress at 78 feet above the level. Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn averaged 22/9 per ton. Junction No. 0 Bevel.—Royal Bode, No. 10 Pass Block : The work of breaking down the arch belo'w the old sub-level is still being done. Truck sampling of the broken ore drawn during the period averaged 33/11 per ton. The drive east on the south part of Royal Lode at 55 feet up Gibbon's Kise was advanced to 100 feet. The west drive was advanced to 831 feet. The width of quartz in this direction is greater than the drive, the assay value during the period being 47/2 per ton.

MOUNT LYELL. The progress report for the fortnight ended December 11 is:— North Mount Lyell Mine: Extracted 0147 tons, 1300 feet level, No. 3 rise to 49 feet through mineralised schist. Crown Lyell Mine: Tons extracted 1084. Koyal Tharsis Mine: Tons extracted 4733. West Lyell Mine : Tons extracted SSOB. Lyell Comstook Mine: Tons extracted 38.15. Reduction works : Furnace in blast throughout period ; 1009 tons of refinery anodes made for current year. Concentrator: Mill operated 330 hours and treated 23.433 tons, producing 1842 tons of concentrates. Copper refinery: Tank house in operation throughout period, 500 tons of cathode copper being produced for the fortnight. Total for current year, 2003 tons. BUNDI (WEST COAST). For two weeks, the dredge recovered 2420z gold bullion from G4.000 cubic yards treated in 205 hours.
