ALL HE SAID WAS "SHOO!"
Travelling in his trolley along the railway line near the Victoria Falls, in Southern Rhodesia, a permanent way inspector saw in front of him an animal which he considered was a calf. As he approached he saw that it was a lioness sitting on the rails, with its forepaws on the metals. The trolley was little more than a wooden platform on four small wheels and the . inspector was unarmed. To apply the brakes meant stopping well within the danger zone. The inspector thereupon shouted "Shoo!" and proceeded at full speed. The lioness jumped aside as the trolley whiz, zed past. Hearing the news, a man in charge of a pumping station a little further on took his shotgun and, putting his trolley on the line, dashed off lionhunting. Rounding a bend much sooner than he expected he encountered the lioness. She was standing beside the track. She looked large, lean and hungry and the end of her tail was twitching ominously. He, too, whizzed past, merely nodding a perfunctory "Good evening!"
