RAIN MARS BOXING.

Carroll Outpoints Van Klaveren In a Slippery Ring. TWO TITLES CHANGE HANDS. (Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The outdoor boxing carnival with two championships and an international contest at stake, was marred by steady rain at the Sports Ground last night. Rain unexpectedly began when 20,000 spectators were comfortably seated, and drenched all alike, the boxers often losing their foothold and the referees' dinner jackets and women's frocks being washed out.

There were also laughable incidents, of which was the explosion of a large arc electric globe above the ring and the scattering of fragments of glass all over the ring.

The main bout was between the Australian welter champion, Jack Carroll (lOst 81b) and the Dutchman, Bep Van Klaveren (lOst 111b), a 15-round bout in which Carroll was awarded the decision. Klaverern proved a solid opponent, but was handicapped by a cut over an eye from which blood continually flowed. Carroll, being flat-footed, was better suited by the wet ring.

The lightweight championship titleholder, Herb Bishop (9st 81b), lost in the seventh round to Alf Blateh (9st 71b) on a technical knock-out.

In the bantam championship BobbyClements (Bst) captured the title from Micky Miller (Bst 4flb) in a bout of 10 rounds, which was cut down from 15 rounds owing to the rain.
