The attendance was large and the course fast. The totalisator handled £21,751, compared with £17,203 last year. In the Midsummer Handicap, Cream Harvester led past the stand and then fell, bringing down Sky Wink, Wheat Pool, Plutus and Oversight. All the drivers were slightly injured, but were able to walk off the course. No horses were injured. The stewards recommended that Cream Harvester should be placed on the schooling list. Cracksman, sixth favourite, disposed' of the favourite, Royal Romance, in the opening event.
