TREE CLEARING.

GREEN LANE PLANES.

"CAUSED DOUBLE NUISANCE"

COUNCIL TAKES ACTION.

A group of about twenty plane treea, which according to the official statement are causing "a double nuisancc" in Green Lane Road, One Tree Hill, ar© being cut down by council workmen. The council, it is stated, will later consider whether or not the trees will be replaced with others which will give beauty to the street without causing nuisance to the various people affected. Mr. A. Leese, clerk of the One Tree Hill borough, stated this morning that the trees concerned were old and unsightly. They ljad been the subject of complaint by the residents, by the Cornwall Park trustees and by the council and Post and Telegraph employees. They did not enhance the appearance of the street and in fact they were detrimental to it. In the young stages the trees were pretty enough, but when the autumn came they distributed their broad yellow leaves all over adjoining front gardens and in the drains, causing blockages and a resulant nuisance. Again, as they grew bigger they had to lie mutilated each year because of their interference with the overhead power lines. The trees in Green Lane Eoad have been the subject of complaint for a number eff years, it was stated, and last year three were cut out at the request of adjoining residents. The Cornwall Park trustees have also complained that ; the appearance of the trees spoiled the ■ approaches to their park. The Borough : Council as a result of many complaints ! decided to cut out the trees. Work was ! started this week, the workman sawing ! off the trees above the ground level • and then digging out the stumps from j the footpatln Afterwards the footpaths I will be repaired. Later the council may I consider replacing the planes with other 1 and more desirable ■ trees, .
