EAST COAST RAILWAY.

TANEATUA-OPOTIKI LINK.

EARLY COMPLETION SOUGHT.

(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)

OPOTIKI, Wednesday.

At a meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council last night Mr. Shalfoon said the question of the continuation of the East Coast railway from Taneatua to Opotiki should be put before the Government, and that there should be no delay in the matter.

The deputy-Mayor, Mr. T. G. Johnson, who occupied the chair, said the intention of the Government was to complete the line to Opotiki, but that work would not be put in hand till other works were well under way. Ho would guarantee Taneatua-Opotiki line would come.

Mr. Slialfoon contended that the line should be gone on with immediately.

A motion that the deputy-Mayor should be asked to interview Mr. A. G. Hultquist, member for the Bay of Plenty, and ask him to urge the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Semple, to make an immediate visit to Opotiki, was carried.
