OFFICIAL DENIAL.
ALLEGED STATEMENTS.
REPLY TO MR. RUSHWORTH.
" BREACH OP CONFIDENCE."
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
RAWENE, this day.
Statements made by Mr. H. M. Rushworth, sitting Country party member for Bay of Islands, at several of his recent meetings and considered to reflect upon the Hokianga County Council were replied to by the chairman of the council, Mr. A. C. Yarborongli, at yesterday's meeting. Mr. Ruslnvortli, he said, had claimed to have obtained more money for his electorate than was reserved for either Marsden or Tauranga. Actually most of the money was raised under a system introduced by Mr. Coates and known as automatic allocation. Another statement made by Mr. Rushworth, said Mr. Yarborongli, was that an official of the Hokianga County Council had told him that unless he (Mr. Rusliwortli) supported Mr. Coates. Mr. Ruslnvortli could not expect to hold the confidence and support of the council. Mr. Yarborongli deprecated such a statement or reflection on tlte council through a man who had since died, and therefore had no opportunity to defend himself. He gave the statement an emphatic denial. H© said Mr. Rushworth had been responsible for a breach of confidence with the council by giving certain information, and so the council had had no confidence in Mr. Rusliwortli sinco then. At no time had there been anv discourtesy to Mr. Rusliwortli. It was resolved that the council absolutely repudiate the alleged statement of Mr. Rusliwortli that the council had sent an official to Wellington with any ultimatum from the council.
