The Labour candidate for Waitemata, Mr. W. J. Lyon, addressed 500 elector* in the King's. Theatre at'Northcote last, evening. " A vote of confidence was passed without dissent., Mr. Lyon ridiculed what. lie termed the "utterly absurd allegation that Labour in office would confiscate eveiything and distribute this equally among the people." Regarding the assertion that the Labour party was dominated by the Trades Hall, he said that the Labour party's constitution was the most democratic in New Zealand. He contended that guaranteed prices was not a new idea,, and that severai were in operation to avoid unfa.ir competition. Sweden had a Labour Government whidh in 1930 tOok charge of the national bank and of currency and maintained wholesale price levels. Its money was just as good as British money. Had the critics of Labour Governments ever heard about the Labour. Governments in Sweden, Queensland and Tasmania, and the expansion policy of tlie Labour Government in West Australia? He won'dered why no mention was heard of . these .The. facts., were. at. the disposal .of the Press, and why were they withheld? Was it-'because their publication might help Ijhe Labour party? It would be difficult to check up on 80 Party politics had definite weaknesses, but the party system at least enabled the cbuntry to know what kind 9? political eepnomy was going to-be put-into operation.
