EMPIRE LINKS.

LAST DAY—MONDAY.

THREE CHRISTMAS MAILS. HEAVY POSTINGS EXPECTED. Within the next few .days three ships will leave New Zealand carrying the last throe mails that will reach London before Christmas. Indications are that these mails will be heavy ones, as the quantity of mail matter shipped this year is still lagging behind that of last year. The Aorangi, which left yesterday with Christmas mail for Canada, America, Great Britain, Ireland and Europe, carried 821 bags, compared with SCO bags of Christmas mail carried by the Niagara last November. The Mariposa, which followed tho Niagara last vear carried 150 bags, and it is expected that the Lurline, which will leave Auckland on Saturday with first-class Christinas mail, will exceed this total considerably. Mail matter by the Lurline must be specially addressed. Owing to the different routes taken both the Aorangi's and the Lurline's mails will reach London on December 12. The remaining two dispatches of newspapers, packets and parcels for the United Kingdom and Europe will be by the Port Chalmers, which leaves Auckland to-morrow and is due at London on December 17, and the Eangitiki, which will leave Napier next Tuesday, and is due at London on December 22. It should be noted that though the Port Chalmers is up for sailing tomorrow at 5 p.m., the mail will close at 10 a.m. The Rangitiki mail will close at Auckland on Monday. These will be the last mails to reach London before Christmas. People who intend sending copies of "Brett's Christmas Number" to their friends overseas are reminded that the time is getting very short. The annual can be dispatched by the Port Chalmers or the Rangitiki at a postal rate of Id; if sent by the Lurline the .postal rate will be sd. <
