ATTACK WITH KNIFE.
MAN STABBED IN ARM
love for a white girl. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - GISBORNE, this clay. Ail affray in which one of the parties was stabbed in the arm with a knif6 and the other received a blow which temporarily closed one eye resulted ill the' appearance before Mr. E. Walton, S.M., this morning of Louie Kit, a Chinese gardener, to answer a charge of assaulting Stanley George Matcliett, 'to which he pleaded guilty. The prosecutor stated that Matchett and a girl had been walking along a road when accused, . rushed Matchett, threatening him with a knife. Matcliett attempted to guard himself, and received a gash in the arm. He then attacked accused and held him while the girl took the knife away. . Accused, he said, had been on friendly terms with the girl's family, and had been encouraged by the mother to pay attention to, the girl. The assault had evidently been inspired by jealousy, and the accused was fortunate the charge against him was not more serious. j Kit was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment.
