NOME'S NAME.
The "famous gold town of Nome in Alaska is said to have been named by a curious mistake. In early maps of Alaska one cape was left nameless, ancl an official to whom a draft map was submitted pencilled on the cape the query "Name ?" When the rough map was copied a draughtsman transcribed the scrawled query as "Nome." ' I
