RED WATER IN BULGARIA.
Blood-red water recently welled from springs at the source of the river Berkovitza in Northwestern Bulgaria, and the peasants were filled with dismay. On three previous occasions, village legend says, the springs flowed scarlet and bloodshed followed. The first was in 1885, just before the war ill Serbia; the second in AugiiE'y 1916, at the height of Bulgarian World War victories in Macedonia.
