PROVED SOUND.
POLICY OF THE GOVERNMENT. CONVERSION LOAN CITED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) MARTON, Tuesday. "The best evidence of the Government's sound, policy is provided in the fact that the recent London loan was floated at tlie lowest rate of interest possible," said the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, speaking at the Civic Theatre, Marton, this afternoon, to a large audience of Rangitikei electors. "We enjoy the confidence of the people at Home, which was not the case ■with Australia when Labour ruled," said Mr. Forbes. "If Labour were to gain the Treasury benches liere—which, of course, they won't —then that confidence Which we enjoy to-day would immediately disappear." Mr. Forbes referred to cho birth of the Democrat party, and said that from information lie had gained up and down the land the Democrats were not being taken seriously, and liad the support of only a disgruntled minority. "It is all very well for Labour to say that the Government is in, tlio dock," he said. "Of course, we are on trial. How could Labour be, when they have done nothing? We are confident that the people are standing by us, and not. 'falling for' the unfair criticism and Specious promises of the Labour party." Mr. Forbes received a splendid hearing. The Mayor of Marton, Mr. F. Purhell, presided, and Mrs. Forbes was presented with a bouquet by Miss Purnell.
