FORMER AUCKLAND RESIDENT,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIUKU, this day.
Immediately on resuming his seat after asking a question at a political meeting in the Otaua Hall on Saturday night, Mr. William Sands, aged 72, a well-known farmer, collapsed and died. The meeting, which was addressed by Mr. A. O. A. Sexton, Independent Country party candidate for Franklin, was at once closed. When he collapsed Mr. Sands was carried into the open air. A lady member of the audience with nursing experience examined him and declared that he was dead, an opinion that was confirmed when a doctor had been called. Mr. Sands, who had been farming at Otaua for about 23 years, was born in Wales and came to New Zealand 52 years ago, engaging in dairy farming on the Dilworth property at Remuera. In 1903 ho went to the Waikato, taking up land near Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters.
