MERCANTILE AUXILIARY.
A party of officers and cadets fr6m the visiting Japanese mercantile training ship Shintoku Maru were the guests of honour at an enjoyable "At Home" given by the Mercantile Auxiliary Club on Friday evening. The rooms were attractively arranged with seasonal flowers, and in the lounge a brightly burning log fire added to the comfort of those present. The guests were received by the president Mrs. M. Ifwersen, who wore a frock of black charmeuse relieved with diamante, and the vice-president, Mrs. Leonard Burton, in a frock of ecru lace. During the evening Maori songs by Miss, Rose Kennedy were enthusiastically received, as were also dances by little June Anderson, Shirley Park and Betty Crossley. Solos by Cadet Y. Wakino were greatly enjoyed, whilst action choruses by the cadets added greatly to the success of the evening, an especial number being a song written especially for the Shintoku Maru. Mr. Furlong, of the Intejnal Affairs Department, Wellington, and Dr. Myaki were special guests for the evening.
