SPEEDING IN ONEHUNGA.
There was no appearance of John Patrick Burke, of Ellerslie, to answer a charge at the Onehunga Magistrate's Court this morning of dangerous driving in Onehunga on July 27. Mr. Wesley Martin, manager of the Strand Theatre, Onehunga, said he was standing in front of the theatre during the eveliing performance on July 27 when he heard defendant's motor cycle going past at a terrific speed with the exhaust open and sounding like a machine gun. The noise interfered with the speakers in the theatre. Sergeant S. A. Brown said he estimated the speed of defendant's motor cycle when passing through Queen Street, Onehunga, at 50 m.p.h. Constable Davies, of Ellevslie, read a statement from Burke in which he admitted that ho was travelling 40 m.p.h. Defendant was fined £2 10/ and costs 10/ for speeding, £1 and costs for not having a silencer on his machine, and 10/ and costs for having a defective tail light.
