ABOLITION SUGGESTED.

HONEY CONTROL BOARD. The council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at its last meeting received a request from the Greymouth Chamber of Commerce for support for the latter body's efforts to have the Honey ( Control "Board abolished. Because the matter is under consideration by the Associated Chambers it was decided to take no action. The letter from the Greymouth Chamber stated that it was considered that the present system of control by the board should be abolished. -'When it is considered that at present a producer cannot net 4d a pound for his product owing to the control system and yet can not Od a pound and 7d a pound if allowed to export on his own behalf the position speak? for itself," the letter stated. "The members of the chamber arc also of the opinion that the petition circulated through the Dominion agitating for local control, as well as for export control, will not have a beneficial effect, but rather the reverse. "May we therefore urge that every effort be made to have the control board abolished, and if unsuccessful in that direction to have the Honey Control Act amended in such a way as to enable every beekeeper to vote"for representation on the control board, as at the present time some 200 beekeepers are eligible to vote, whereas the number should be 3000 odd."
