RETURNED SOLDIERS.

PROVISION OF COMFORTS. REPRESENTATIVE RESOLUTION In view of the recently announced policy of the joint committee of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John, as stated by Sir James Gunson, a special meeting of representatives of the exservicemen's and women's organisations in Auckland whs held in the rooms of the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association. A resolution was passed urging that the joint committee allocate moneys for the purpose of giving comforts to the returned soldiers in the Auckland Mental Hospital, the Public Hospital and the Auckland Infirmary. The resolution was stated to have the support of 40,000 returned soldiers in the Auckland province. Bodies represented at the meeting were the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, the Ex-Servicewomen's Association, Returned Nursing Sisters' Association, Old Contemptibles' Association, British Legion, League of Nations Union, representatives of the following returned soldiers and ex-servicemen's clubs affiliated with the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, namely, Avondale, Eden-Roskill, Ellerslie, EpeornRoyal Oak, Grey Lynn, Mount Wellington, Panmure-Pakuranga, Newmarket, Northcote, Parncll, Point Chevalier, Ponsonby-Herne Bay, Remuera, Taka-puna-Milford and Waiheke. The resolution is as follows: "That this meeting, comprising representatives of the above bodies, urges the joint committee of the British Red Cross and Order of St. John to allocate moneys from the Ited Croes funds within its control for the. purpose of providing hospital comforts to the many returned soldiers at present in the Mental Hospital, the Auckland Public Hospital and the Infirmary. "That this meeting fully appreciates that assistance is being rendered to other returned soldiers and their families who are in distressed circumstances, but at the same time affirms its conviction that the sick and disabled soldiers in the' above institutions have also a just claim to a portion of these funds which were primarily raised on their behalf. "To that end it is requested that a sum of at least £12 per week be allocated. This meeting has the support of some 40,000 returned soldiers in the Auckland province."
