LONDON', June 24,

Following the appointment of Mr. John Buchan (since raised to the peerage) as Governor-General of Canada, a by-election was held for the Scottish Universities seat he has vacated. The election resulted: —

Mr. Graham Kerr (Nat. Con.) . 20,507 Mrs. Naomi Mitchison (Lab.) . 4,293

A by-election in 1927 resulted:—Mr. John Buchan (Con.), 10,903; Mr. Hugh Guthrie (Lab.), 2378. There lias been no change in the representation since then.
