AMUSEMENTS.

A NIGHT OF MAGIC. Clever manipulation, deight-oMjaiid and illusions provided two hours' entertainment at the Hall last evening, when •fJadoo" and "A la mat,'' two well-known local magicians and conjurors delightfully "fooled" an appreciative audience. "Jadoo" gave a finished performance throughout. His work with coloured silks was baffling to his audience, some most mysterious changes being made and always working to an unexpected conclusion. His manipulation of billiard balls was clever, as was his work with lengths of cord, but to the audience his best trick was when he placed in his mouth a dozen needles and a length of thread and produced the thread a few moments later with the needles threaded, this having been done apparently in the mouth. "Alamat" chiefly concentrated upon card manipulation, his work also being effective, the deceptions in all instances being complete. Both artists were assisted in several of their acts by Miss Patricia Andrews. Mr. Dan Flood, one of Auckland's best known humorists, was in great form. Dancing numbers were given by Miss Mavis Ward. The programme will be repeated this evening. GARRICK THEATRE'S PLAY. This evening will see the opening presentation of the Garrick Repertory Theatre's production of Walter Hacket's rollicking farce, "It Pays To Advertise," which was first presented in London as one of the earliest and . most successful Aldwvch Theatre plays, headed by the Tom WallsRalph Lynn combination. In the current production, which will be at the Lewis Eady Hall this evening and again tomorrow, T. B. Slipper, Les. Ryan, George Clapliam, Robert Crawford, Patsy Penty and .Tune McGinley will take the principal roles. Miss Raie Robinson is producer for the society, which was formerly known as the Garrick Dramatic Society.
