WINE FROM CELLAR.

YOUNG MAN'S THEFT,

OFFENCE AT HENDERSON.

The theft of six gallons of wine, valued at £<> 5/, the property of Joseph Radaly, on May 2U, was admitted by a farm iabourer, Nicholas Lipanovich, aged 191. who appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Mr. W. W. Meek appeared for Lipanovich.

Sub-Inspector Fox said Lipanovich worked for Radaly for four months during the present year, and had a knowledge of Radaly's premises. On May 2C, while Radaly "and his family were absent, Lipanovich climbed through a window and stole wine from the vats in the cellar. The following day Constable Pollard went to the house where accused had a room, and there found the wine, which had been taken away in petrol tins. Accused had never previously been in any trouble. "There has been a good deal of trouble caused in the Henderson district recently in consequence of young men taking wine to dances," said Mr. Fox. "This young man seems to be one of the worst offenders in that

respect." Mr. Meek said Radaly and Lipanovich had a dispute about £8 15/ wages, which accused considered was owing to him, and accused foolishly conceived the idea of taking the wine/ The wine had not been taken to any dances by Lipanovich, who was a 'hard-working young man. His people lived at Te Kuiti, and he could return to them if given a chance. Sub-Inspector Fox said Radaly would dispute the suggestion made that he owed Lipanovicli money for wages. Mr. McKean: I am not impressed about what was said in that respect.

The magistrate (to Lipanovich): You have been taking wine to dances? —No, all the boys do. Lipanovich was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence on December 4 and to pay the costs.
