THE MILK COUNCIL.
Mr. Frcston makes the statement that the Parliamentary decision against the repeal of the Milk Act and in favour of amendments was "entirely due to the undivided support of the Labour party." That statement is contrary to the facts. The Hon. Mr. McLeocl was chairman of the committee, which was unanimous in recommending this course. There was very little opposition and the Labour party was no more undivided than the rest of the House. If milk marketing control is the result of a "craze for socialisation," then that craze must be very widespread, including Australia, England and America. Nor is it confined to the Labour party; Wellington's municipal scheme being introduced by a Conservative council, and the national scheme in England by the present Tory Government. The plain fact is that community control is becoming more and more an economic necessity. "Natural competition" docs not work out its own salvation. It is responsible for appalling waste, and can end only in monopoly or chaos. J. S. MONTCOMERIE.
