DRAKE PLAYS BOWLS.

FAMOUS SCENE AT PLYMOUTH.

During a recent week-end one of the most famous incidents in the history of England was re-enacted on the exact spo°t where the scene took place. Tnis was the celebrated game of bowls played bv Sir Francis Drake at Plymouth Hce ori the eve of the Battle of the Armada. Receiving an encouraging weather report a film unit left for Plymouth while Mathcson Lang, who is playing the

role of Drake, made the journey on the midnight train following a performance in a new West End play.

There appears to be some doubt in Plymouth as to where the game actual!/ took place, but on the most reliable authorities it occurred somewhere on the spot now occupied by the Koyal Marino Biological Aquarium. The director approached the authorities with a view to "shooting" the game in the gardens of the aquarium, and received the necessary permission immediately with a promise of every possible co-operation.

Amongst those present at the game of bowls were Sam Livesey as Sir Gcorga Sydenham, lan Fleming as Lord Howard, or Effingham, Frederick Eanalow as John Hawkins, and Matheson Lang 88 Drake, with several naval officers.
