CHEERED WITH GUSTO.
NAZI NEW ART STYLE. MAX SCHMELTNG, DIRECTOR. BERLIN, April 17. A new "society style" must be evolved by the "comradeehip of German artists," Nazi power-holders ruled recently when reorganising this association and introducing men into it who, they claim, will help create the new style. Max Schineling, one time world heavy-weight champion, is among those selected for the honour of directing art and creating the "new style.' . Premier Hermann Goering and Propaganda Minister Goebbels are honorary members of the association. State officials, lawyers and bankers figure prominently on its boards. Artists like Richard Strauss, the pianist Wilheliii Backhaus, the movie star Willi Fritsch, the writer Dr. Hans Friedrich Bliinck, who whole-heartedly accept Nazi regimentation in art, arc among the comparatively few artists on the board. The singer Fran Margarete Arndt-Ober is its only woman. The director of all German railroads, Dr. Dorpmueller, is among the industrialists who will help inspire and direct art in Nazi Germany. President of the comradeship, Benno von Arent, designer of theatre settings, declared at the opening meeting of the reorganised association that its purpose was "to nurse the spirit ofVcomradeship; free ite members of the egotistical viewpoint, and to devote themselves to art in the spirit of cultural renaissance desired by the fuehrer." Max Schmeling, the barons of capital and the artists present at the meeting cheered with gusto.
