FERRY SERVICE.
PROBLEM OF INSURANCE

Conflicting legal opinions as to the necessity of insurance coverage are the cause of a hold-up in the proposed Raupo-Tikinui ferry service. At a meeting of the Hob'son County Couiici a letter was received from the Otamatea County Council asking whether legal advice had been obtained concerning the liability of the council in the event of loss by accident during the running of the service and in the event of the undertaking not being insured. "Wo have obtained advice from our solicitor," said the chairman, 31 r. V. Trouneon, who quoted from a letter n which information was give". iUe council, he said, could -oowtnict operate the service tself, but it _ did not evade liability for allowed a contractor, agent or private individual to operate. Ultimately it was decided that representatives of the two council* should confer with a view to coming to some finality Otamatea County Council, meantime, is being asked to secure independent legal advice.
