GOLF SURPRISE. Tolley Defeated on Last Green In British Championship. VICTOR FALLS NEXT ROUND. (IJeceived 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, May 23. There was another big surprise in the British amateur golf championship, at Royal Lytham and St. Anne's links, when Coodwin, a little-known Swinton Park player, beat Tolley on the last green. Tolley played well, but Goodwin had the round of his lifetime. Tolley never led. He faced a 7yd putt at the last green to avoid defeat, but missed by inches. / McCallum, a Scottish player, several times looked like beating Lawson Little (the American and British champion). Henriques, a local player, beat Garnctt by one of the best rounds of the day. A high wind resulted in generally poor scores. Results:— Fourth Round.—Fiddian defeated John Burke, 1 up; Torrance defeated E. Gibbs, 3 and 1; H. Holden defeated de Forest (a former holder), 6 and 4; Motron-Dykes defeated Bullock-Webster (a New Zealander, living in California), 4 and 2; Little defeated McCallum, 2 and 1; Topping defeated Kyle, 1 up; Henriques defeated Garnett, 4 and 3; A. Goodwin defeated Tolley, 1 up. Fifth Round. —Fiddian defeated Chapman (America), 2 and 1; Torrance defeated Holden, at the nineteenth; Dykes defeated Donovan (Canada), 1 up; Little defeated J. Black, 2 up;; Henriques defeated Topping, 4 and 2; Alex Walker defeated Goodwin, 0 and 5.
