ART CRITICISM.
While fully appreciating the value of the comments made -by Mr. Arthur C Hipwoll Hi Saturday's "Star" on the work shown at the Auckland Society of Arts exhibition, I am very puzzled by one of the statements ho makes: "At least they help one to appreciate Epstein." Is the art instructor to the Auckland Polytechnic indulging in sarcasm, or does he seriously think that anything could make one appreciate such offensive images as are turned out by the alleged sculptor li< x mentions? Knowing Mr. Hipwell'g reputation as a critic and as an artist of undoubted ability, I sincerely hope that sarcasm was intended, and not a tribute to such hideous mockeries of art that Epstein produces, or I shall go to my grave as a man who could not appreciate an artistic accomplishment. ARTISTIC.
