HARRIERS

COMBINED RUN. 120 ATHLETES TURN OUT. The opening run of the season took place from the Kohimnrama School 011 Saturday, about 120 runners being prcscrt. Eight clubs were represented. Prior to the run the harriers were addressed by Mr. Kiilaugher, president ot the Amateur Athletic Centre. Mr. Kttlauglicr stated that the team of prominent English athletes which had just returned home from a visit to this country, had dwelt upon the benefits to be derived by track athletes from- winter cross-country running. The harriers were divided into three packs, fast, intermediate and slow, nnd ail excellent cross-country run of about five miles was enjoyed. The trail was laid by McDonald, Graham, Warren, Gibbs and G ml sell. Afternoon ten was served by a willing band of lndv enthusiasts under the leadership of Mesdames Gilchrist and Barker. LYNNDALE CLUB. The Lynndale Harrier Club held an eight-mile run. commencing from the Avondale Racecourse. A 10Ovds sprint held before the run resulted as follows : —W. Brereton (26yds) 1, \V. C. Halliday (17yils) 2, E. West (Byds) 3. Won easily liy live yards, third man a foot back. WAITEMATA LADIES' CLUB. The Waitemntn Ladles' Harrier Club held their second run of t lie season. They started from the residence of Mr. nnd Mrs. Henley. The run was three miles, and mostly road work. Thev ran in one pack under Captain Nelson, all the runners showing good form. Miss J. Salt showed promise, as also (lid I. Good. K. Henley and W Clewett. Afterwards the club had afternoon tea nt Mrs. Henley's, ending a v->ry enjoyable afternoon. CALLIOPE CLUB. Culliope held its first races, the novice and veteran handicaps, each over the same course of 23 miles. The novice race yvas decided first. The finish saw Sniellie first across tlie line, with a comfortable lend over Sanders. Pagan, a junior, ran well to register third place. Fastest time went to C. Sanders with a novice record of 10.11. Ten men started in the veterans' event. On the second lap slight changes took place, and ill a splendid finsii up the road of 200 yds Copelnnd finished first. Davis second and Clow third. Clow established a new course record for the veterans, as well as taking honrurs for fastest time..
