WAIKATO TROTS.

ONE-DAY FIXTURE. SOME FINE FINISHES. SMOOGER WIN'S CHIEF EVENT. Fine weather favoured the Waikato Trotting Club for their meeting at Claudelaiuls on Saturday. There was a good attendance and the course was i'.i excellent order. The Waikato Handicap was won narrowly by the Hawcratrained gelding Smooger, who just got up to beat Jackie Thorpe in the last stride. Another good finish was provided in the Dominion Handicap, the chief sprint event, Lady Coronado, the outsider of the field, winning by a head from Bingen Chief, who was a similar distance in front i f Kcwpie's Guv. During the day the sum of £7894 was put through the machine, compared with £11,303 for the first day of the

corresponding meeting lust year, a decrease of £3400. The Raglan Handicap. Cherrill was the only scratching for tho Raglan Handicap, and most support was accorded Winaway, Tryment, and Red Frontier, but Lady Amanda, after being prominent all the way, scored nicely. Bettenv'n and Lady Amanda began quickest, while Alexis tangled and lost ground. .Going past the stands, Lady Amanda was in charge from N'ative Cole, Red Frontier, Bctterwin, Tryment, and Winaway. Red Frontier was in charge along the back, and led into the straight from Lady Amanda, Tryment, Winaway, Native Cole, and Betterwin. Red Frontier broke about a hundred yards from home, and Lady Amanda went on to win by a length and a quarter from him, with Tryment a length and a half further back. Winaway was fourth, and Betterwin, Native Cole, and Alexis followed. Another Good Price. King's Play, King's Guide, Roma Girl, Sports Queen, Worthy Roy, Bismuth and Muriel Bond were not harnessed up for the Waipa Handicap, leaving nine to go to the post. Fleet lie Bell was installed favourite, with Rockella and Our McKinney next favoured. Parochial was tho leader past the stands from Jean Parrish, Charteria Bay, Rockella, Our McKinney and Kewpie'a Crest, with the others well back. When they came round again Parochial was followed by Charleris Bay, Rockella, Our McKinney, Kewm'e's Crest, Star Pronto and Electric Bell, the last-mentioned two moving up. Along the back Parochial was still in command from Charteris Bay, Our McKinney, Rockella and Star Pronto, who was going through fast. Parochial was just in front of Our McKinney at the home turn, with Rockella, Star Pronto and Electric Bell next, and. in the run to the judge Star Pronto did best to win by half a length from Our McKinney, who beat Parochial by a. length and a half. The:i came Kewpie's Creet, Electric Bell, Rockella and Jean Parrish. Heads among Three.

Only five went to the post for the Dominion Handicap, but nevertheless it provided a fine finish, heads separating the placed horses. Bingen Chief was favourite, while Kewpie's Guv and Prince Pedro were next in demand, but the outsider, Ladv Coronado pot the decision. Bingen Chief lost about half a dozen lengths at the stmt, Homeward leading past the stands, six lengths clear of Lady Locanda. with Kewpie's Guv, Prince Pedro and Bingen Chief following in that order. Along the hack [there was little alteration except that Bingen Chief was making up ground. Homeward was out eight lengths in front of Lady Coronado at the home turn, while Kewpie's Guy and Bingen Chief were next. Homeward tired about lift}" yards from home, and in <i great struggle Lady Coronado beat Bingen Chief by a head, with Kewpie's Guy a similar distance away, followed by Homeward and Prince Pedro. Drivers Fined. j Ail inquiry was held into the falling of Homeward in the Waikato Handicap, and after hearing the evidence the judicial committee decided to fine F. J. Smith, the driver of War Paint, £10 for interference. Later, Smith and J. G. Robertson, driver of Francis Lincoln in the* same race, had a set to in the jockeys' room, and they were both fined £5. Ran to Form.

The meeting concluded with the Eureka Handicap, for which Electric Bell and Winaway were scratched. Transworthy was the public fancy, while there was also support for Kewpie's King, Rare Rev, and Red Frontier. Transworthy made up his ground fast and led along the back from Native Colo and Red Frontier, but at the end of a circuit Native Cole was in front, from Transworthy, Red Frontier, Lady Amanda, Tryment, Alexis, Kewpic's King, Whakahihi, and Rare Rey. Along the back Native Cole was followed by Transworthy (who a little later broke and lost his place), Red Frontier, Tryment, Lady Amanda and Transworthy. Red Frontier was first into line from Tryment, Lady Amanda and Kewpie's King, and went on to win bv three lengths from Kevvpie'3 King, who beat Tryment by half a length. Then came Lady Amanda, Alexis, Rare Rey and Transworthy. Later results are: — RAGLAN HANDICAP of £90. One mile and n quarter. Limit 3.0.
