"TREASURE HUNT."
Trio Who Sailed in Search of Gold. ARREST IN FORMOSA. (Received 10 a.m.) SHANGHAI, May 2. Advice received here states that the Fonnosan police have arrested two Americans and one German, named Gates, Wrede and Roubin respectively, on charges of violating the Shipping Act and of entering a fortified zone without authority. The trio left Shanghai recently in a small sailing boat for a long cruise, touching at the Phillipines, New Guinea and possibly Australia, and eventually proceeding to Cocos Island, in the Indian Ocean, where they intended to salvage the alleged gold cargo of the sunken German raider Emdcn, also from a Spanish galleon said to have been sunk in the. same locality. The Fonnosan authorities, however, claim that the Americans are really naval, officers, and that they were caught photographing a fortified zone..
