OTAHUHU SCHOOL

ANNUAL CARNIVAL. The very fine grounds of the Otahuhu Primary School presented a gay scene on Thursday when the school's annual , gala and sports were held. Keen competition in the sports section resulted in Molly Smith winning the girls' championship, and Ewan Pilkington the boys. Each will, in addition to holding the Herbert Smith Cup, receive a miniature. In conjunction with menibers of the schooi staff under the leadership of Mr. A. Murdoch, headmaster, the school com mittee, a ladies' committee comprising: Mesdamese Jackson, Hubbard, McLaren, Deas, Lovatt, McCullough, Hunter, Pierce, Markwick, Lockhart, Simmons, Mays, Wood, Kern}), Constance, Mears, Marsh, Montgomery, Nield, Dawson, McConoehic, Verral, Patrick, and Misses Crow and Dalzicll, organised a comprehensive programme during the afternoon and evening. Stalls and sideshows catered for the amusement of a large attendance of parents and friends. Exhibition dances by ex-pupils and scholars, national dancing to the accompaniment of piping by Mr. K. A. Archibald, and conjuring by Norman Tait under a brilliant floodlighting system, provided a full evening's amusement. A most successful item was the baby show, over 50 babies being entered in' the four classes. The judging was carried out by JJr. J. J. Valentine, of Papatoetoe.
