NAVAL SQUADRON.
WELLINGTON VISIT. FINE WEATHER ON COAST. MANOEUVRES IN GULF. (By Telegraph.—rross Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Australian naval squadron arrived on an informal visit at 7 o'clock this morning. Rear-Admiral W. T. Handle Ford-left the flagship Canberra at 9.30 to pay official calls, a salute of thirteen guns from Point Jerningham being fired as he left his ship.
The five vessels will remain at Wellington for varying periods. Destroyer Vendetta will leave for New Plymouth on Monday, the destroyers Stuart and Voyager for Sydney on March 2S, the cruiser Canberra for Lyttelton on March 2!>, and the cruiser Sussex for Dunedin on March 31.
The New Zealand warships Diomede and Leith are in port, and the usual courtesies are being exchanged.
Various entertainments for the officers and men of the visiting ships have been arranged by the Navy League and other organisations. There will be an Australian Squadron dance on the Canberra on Tuesday.
WJiile the squadron was in the Hauiaki Gulf manoeuvres were carried out, including an anti-a'frcraft shoot, sub-calibre shooting by the destroyers, and torpedo attacks, both day and night.
Fine weather was experienced on the trip to Wellington.
